The internet has become an indispensable part of our daily lives and an indispensable tool for advertising and commerce. A recent report by Forrester Research shows that $248.7 billion in online sales are expected by 2014 in the United States alone, with a compounded growth forecast of 10% over the next five years. For many businesses, their web presence and marketing and online reputation are extremely valuable commodities. However, many attorneys simply do not understand the extent to which there are unique laws that govern online activities, be they customer comments on websites, electronic contracts, use of personal information of customers, or the use of trademarked terms in domain names.
Before law school, I worked for an internet service provider, and before working with the ISP, I have been exploring programming, computer science, and internet issues for most of my life. This background provides me with a unique understanding of the internet, domain names, e-commerce, and social media that many lawyers simply lack. I have litigated complex multi-national domain name disputes, disputes related to alleged breaches of the terms and conditions of social media sites, e-commerce disputes, and online trademark and copyright infringement issues, to name a few. I bring my unique perspective and experience to the table through all stages of the dispute resolution process, from initial case evaluation through settlement efforts and ultimately trial.
